Privacy Policy of the "Gameoptio" App
Effective Date: October 2, 2026
The developer of the "Gameoptio" app (hereinafter referred to as "we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and store information when you use the "Gameoptio" mobile app (hereinafter referred to as the "App").
This document is drafted taking into account the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
1. What Information We Collect
We adhere to the principle of data minimization. The App does not collect and does not require you to provide personal data (such as name, email address, phone number, precise geolocation, or passwords). Account registration is not required to use the App.
To ensure the operation and improvement of the App, we only collect the following anonymous technical information:
- Random Identifier (UUID): When you first launch the App, a unique, randomly generated anonymous identifier is created that is not tied to your identity or your device outside the App.
- Content Interaction History: Game identifiers (IDs) of games you marked (swiped) as liked, disliked, skipped, or added to the "Will Play" list.
- Matchmaking Settings: Your selected platforms and genres.
- Device Data and Crash Reports: To improve the stability of the App, we collect technical data about your device (device model, OS version) and anonymized error reports (crash reports).
- Usage Statistics: Anonymized data on how the App is used: screens opened, actions in the App (e.g., swipes and opening game cards), session duration, as well as the interface language and approximate location (country and city determined by IP address).
2. How We Use This Information
The collected anonymous data is used exclusively to operate and improve the App:
- Saving your personal lists and game collections ("Will Play", "Liked", "Disliked", and skipped games).
- Generating personalized recommendations: the algorithm takes your ratings, selected platforms, and genres into account to suggest suitable games and not show those you have already rated or skipped.
- Finding and fixing errors to improve the stability of the App.
- Analyzing aggregated usage statistics to improve the App.
Recommendations are generated by a neural network running on our own server. Your data is not transferred to third-party artificial intelligence services.
3. Data Storage
- Storage Location: Anonymous data (UUID, game rating history, and matchmaking settings) is securely transmitted and stored on a server located in Spain. Because this data is completely anonymized, it does not fall under personal data localization requirements.
- Storage Period: Data is stored on the server indefinitely. After deleting the App from your device, it is no longer associated with any device (see section 6 for details).
4. Third-Party Services and Links
The App uses third-party services to display content and to collect crash reports and usage statistics. We transfer data only to Google Firebase (see section 1) and do not transfer your data to the other services. When downloading images and videos directly from the servers of content services, they may receive technical data necessary for content delivery (e.g., device IP address). The processing of such data is governed by their own privacy policies:
- IGDB API: The App uses the IGDB (Internet Game Database, owned by Twitch) API to download covers, descriptions, screenshots, and other information about games.
- RAWG (rawg.io): The source for short video preview trailers that play inside the App.
- YouTube: Full videos for games are hosted on the YouTube platform. When viewing them — both from a game card and via a link to other YouTube videos — content is provided by the YouTube service (Google).
- Steam and Metacritic Ratings: Downloaded by our server. Your data is not transferred to these services.
- Google Firebase (Crashlytics and Google Analytics): We use these services provided by Google LLC to collect anonymized crash reports and usage statistics, monitor App performance, and improve its stability. Firebase uses its own random installation identifiers, which we do not link to your UUID; the advertising identifier is not collected. You can read more about Google's data protection practices in their Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- External Links: Links to Twitch, Metacritic, official game websites, and stores (e.g., Steam, PlayStation Store, Epic Games, GOG) open the respective service. Upon redirection, their own privacy policies apply.
5. Children's Safety
The App is not intended to intentionally collect information from children. Because we do not collect personal data, we also do not collect personal information about minors. Age restrictions for using the App's content are determined by its rating in the app store (App Store).
6. Your Rights and Data Deletion
Because the App collects only anonymous data (see section 1), we cannot identify you personally. To stop all data collection and remove the association of your device with your rating history and matchmaking settings, simply delete the App from your device. After that, the generated UUID will be permanently lost, and the remaining data on the server will become completely "orphaned" and untethered from any device.
7. Changes to the Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to periodically update this Privacy Policy. Any changes will be published on this page (https://kinoptio.com/privacy-gameoptio) with an updated effective date. By continuing to use the App after changes are made, you confirm your acceptance of the updated Policy.
